Lt. Governor David Wasinger Commemorates 250 Years of U.S. Army Service

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – This week, Lieutenant Governor David Wasinger will participate in state and federal events to honor the 250th anniversary of the United States Army. His involvement will include direct engagement with veterans, ceremonial observances, and national-level events – all designed to recognize the legacy and sacrifice of American soldiers.

Today, Lt. Governor Wasinger met with veterans at the St. Louis Veterans Home. “It was an honor to sit down with these veterans and hear their stories,” said Lt. Governor Wasinger. “Their dedication and sacrifice pave the way for the freedoms we enjoy today, and it’s imperative that we never forget the debt we owe them.”

On Thursday, he will join Maj. Gen. Christopher Beck, Commanding General of Fort Leonard Wood, in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Missouri State Capitol, paying tribute to generations of soldiers who have defended America’s freedom since 1775. “This significant milestone isn’t just a celebration of our nation’s oldest military branch, it’s a profound tribute to every soldier who stood in defense of liberty,” Wasinger stated.

This weekend, Lt. Governor Wasinger will travel to Washington, D.C. to represent Missouri at the U.S. Army 250th Birthday Parade. There, he will join hundreds of thousands in saluting two and a half centuries of dedicated Army service. The parade will feature thousands of troops wearing uniforms from every American conflict dating back to the Revolution. It will also showcase tanks, helicopters, armored fighting vehicles, a paratrooper landing by the Army’s Golden Knights, and will end with a fireworks display.

“From early battles such as the Battle of the Sink Hole and pivotal engagements like the Battle of Westport to the vital training and support provided by today’s Fort Leonard Wood installation, Missourians have consistently answered the call to serve,” Wasinger concluded, expressing his deep pride. “The United States Army has not only shaped our nation’s history but has also worked tirelessly to preserve its future. As we look ahead to the next 250 years, Missouri will continue to lead the way in supporting our military, advocating for our veterans, and inspiring the next generation of service.”
