Lt. Governor David Wasinger Calls on Missourians to Honor Veterans Day and Celebrate Our Heroes’ Enduring Legacy
JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Ahead of Veterans Day, Missouri Lieutenant Governor David Wasinger is calling on Missourians to come together in gratitude and action to honor the more than 400,000 veterans who call the Show-Me State home.
“Missouri’s veterans are the backbone of our communities — from the factory floors of St. Louis to the family farms of the Ozarks,” said Lt. Governor Wasinger. “They stormed the beaches of Europe, endured bitter winters in Korea, fought through the jungles of Vietnam, and stood watch in Iraq, Afghanistan, and in every corner of the world. Their service isn’t just history — it’s the foundation of our safe neighborhoods, strong economy, and the freedoms we wake up with every morning.”
Wasinger emphasized that honoring veterans means transforming appreciation into action.
“We must always put our veterans first — protecting our veterans’ homes, expanding access to jobs and career training, guarding against scams and elder abuse, and ensuring Missouri never lets bureaucracy or red tape stand between a veteran and the benefits they’ve earned,” Wasinger said.
Missourians are encouraged to make Veterans Day a true community celebration by taking part in simple acts of gratitude that make a lasting impact:
Attend a Veterans Day ceremony — from the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield to the National WWI Museum in Kansas City and the Soldiers Memorial in St. Louis.
Volunteer at a Missouri Veterans Home — visit residents, play cards, share stories, or simply listen.
Support veteran-owned businesses — from local cafés and hardware stores to family farms across the state.
Fly the American flag — and teach the next generation to honor and respect it.
Send cards or care packages — to deployed Missouri National Guard members and service members overseas.
Donate to veteran organizations — such as the VFW, American Legion, DAV, or Honor Flight hubs across Missouri.
In closing, Wasinger offered a message of appreciation and challenge to all Missourians:
“Let’s show our veterans we appreciate them not just with words, but through action,” Wasinger said. “The freedoms we enjoy were earned by the men and women who wore our nation’s uniform. Missouri will always stand with our veterans — and we’ll work every day to make sure this state remains worthy of their service and sacrifice.”
