JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Lieutenant Governor David Wasinger joined Scouts, families, and community leaders in the Missouri House of Representatives Chamber to celebrate the achievements of Missouri’s newest Eagle Scouts. As a board member of the Greater St. Louis Area Council and the father of two Eagle Scouts, Wasinger delivered remarks highlighting the impact of Scouting on developing future leaders.

“Scouting is more than just earning merit badges or going on camping trips” Wasinger said. “Scouting is about developing character, leadership, and a sense of responsibility that lasts a lifetime.”

Reflecting on his own experience as a Scouting parent, Wasinger spoke about the challenges and rewards of the Eagle journey. He commended the Scouts for their perseverance in reaching this milestone, noting that the rank of Eagle is not just an award but a testament to years of dedication and service.

“The journey to Eagle Scout isn’t easy,” Wasinger said. “It takes commitment, hard work, and a willingness to push beyond your comfort zone. For my sons, the thing I’m most proud of isn’t just the rank they earned—it’s the men they became because of Scouting.”

Wasinger underscored the importance of the Scout Law, emphasizing that its values—Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent—serve as a foundation for good citizenship and strong leadership.

“These aren’t just qualities of a good Scout; they’re qualities of a good citizen, a good friend, and a good leader,” Wasinger said. “One of the most important lessons of Scouting is that leadership is not about power or position—it’s about service.”

The Lieutenant Governor encouraged the Scouts to carry these values beyond their time in Scouting and into their careers and communities. He challenged them to lead by example, whether by mentoring younger Scouts, volunteering in their communities, or pursuing careers that serve others.

“To the Scouts in the room—keep going,” he urged. “Remember that every step you take in Scouting is preparing you for the future.”

Wasinger also took a moment to recognize the families and leaders who support Scouts along the way, acknowledging the sacrifices parents and mentors make to ensure young men succeed in the program.

“Scouting is a family commitment,” he said. “The encouragement, the late-night uniform patches, the early-morning drop-offs—it all matters. You’re not just supporting your children; you’re helping shape the next generation of leaders.”

In closing, Wasinger reaffirmed his belief that Missouri and the nation need leaders who exemplify the principles of Scouting.

“Our state and country need young men and women of character—leaders who stand for what is right, who work hard, and who put service above self,” he said. “I have no doubt that in this room, we have many future leaders who will make a real and lasting impact.”
