FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lt. Governor David Wasinger and Senator Adam Schnelting to Host Forum on Elder Abuse Awareness in St. Charles

ST. CHARLES, MO – Lieutenant Governor David Wasinger and State Senator Adam Schnelting will host a Forum on Elder Abuse Awareness on Friday, July 25, 2025. The event will serve as a platform to shine a light on the often-overlooked issue of elder abuse, while providing attendees with information on critical resources available to protect seniors and support caregivers. Forum participants will have an opportunity to speak to the issue of elder abuse and offer ideas on legislative solutions.

“Protecting Missouri’s seniors is not just the right thing to do – it’s a priority I take very seriously as the state’s statutory advocate for seniors,” said Lt. Governor Wasinger. “This forum is an opportunity to equip families with knowledge, connect them with resources, and ensure we’re doing everything we can, both through policy and practice, to protect Missouri’s seniors.”

Senator Schnelting added, “Combating elder abuse requires more than awareness, it requires action. This Forum brings together the people who can make a difference: caregivers, professionals, families, and lawmakers. I look forward to listening, learning, and taking what we hear back to the Capitol to inform real, lasting change.”

Elder abuse can take many forms and often goes unreported due to fear, isolation, or lack of awareness. This forum is a step towards breaking that silence and underscores Lt. Governor Wasinger and Senator Schnelting’s shared commitment to improving the safety, quality of life, and rights of older Missourians across the state.

The program will feature presentations from caregivers, legislators and the attorney general’s office. The event will be held at the St. Charles City-County Library, located at 1000 Kisker Road in St. Charles, doors will open at 11:15 am.

Seating is limited and attendees are encouraged to RSVP by July 21 by emailing Sherry.Kuttenkuler@senate.mo.gov.
