JEFFERSON CITY, MO — Following a visit to the birthplace of Route 66, Missouri Lieutenant Governor David Wasinger today announced the release of the Buy Missouri Route 66 Guide, a new resource designed to connect travelers with Missouri-made businesses along the historic corridor. Unveiled in Springfield, the city where the name “Route 66” was first proposed by telegram in 1926, the guide celebrates the road’s 100-year legacy while spotlighting the entrepreneurs, manufacturers, and artisans who define Missouri’s economy today. During his visit, Lt. Governor Wasinger met with local business owners featured in the guide and emphasized the importance of the “Missouri leg” of Route 66 as both a cultural landmark and an economic engine stretching from St. Louis to Joplin.
SPRINGFIELD, MO – Today Lieutenant Governor David Wasinger will travel to Springfield to mark a defining moment in American history and Missouri pride. Joined by the Missouri Route 66 Centennial Commission, local leaders, and community partners, he will help dedicate the new Route 66 Plaza at exactly 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30 — the precise moment, one hundred years ago, that the telegram naming Route 66 was sent from the nearby Colonial Hotel.
