Interim Committee on Disaster Preparedness, Response and Recovery to hold public hearings in Joplin, St. Louis
Members will assess ongoing disaster recovery, preparedness
JEFFERSON CITY – An interim committee chaired by Lt. Governor Peter Kinder will take public input at public hearings in Joplin and St. Louis next week. Hearing will be held later in August in the St. Joseph area and in Southeast Missouri. The schedule hearings are:

WHAT: Public hearings to discuss Missouri's disaster preparedness and recovery efforts
WHERE: Sunset Hills City Hall Council Chambers, 3939 S. Lindbergh Blvd, St. Louis
(Prior to the public hearing, committee members will meet at Lambert Airport from noon to 1 p.m. to receive updates from the City of Bridgeton and airport officials on the repairs that have been completed or are ongoing at the airport. Committee members also will tour the facility.)

BACKGROUND:
Missouri Speaker of the House of Representatives Steven Tilley, R-Perryville, formed the Interim Committee on Disaster Preparedness, Response and Recovery earlier in July to assess the state’s ongoing disaster recovery efforts and its preparedness for future catastrophic events.
House Speaker Pro Tem Shane Schoeller, R-Willard, will serve as vice-chairman of the committee. Other members are Reps. Don Gosen, R-Chesterfield, Steve Hodges, D-East Prairie, Shelley Keeney, R-Marble Hill, Sylvester Taylor, D-Black Jack, and Bill White, R-Joplin. Citizen members include Bennie Crossland, of Crossland Construction, Morris Glaze of the Joplin City Council, Dwight Douglas of Freeman Health Systems, and Jim Honey, Jasper County Associate Commissioner.
The committee will assess the preparedness of state and local government leading up to the disasters, the response to the initial impact of the disasters, and the recovery efforts in affected areas. Committee members also will consider the legislative and administrative changes to assist current recovery efforts and improve future disaster preparedness, response and recovery.
The interim committee will submit a report of its findings and recommendations no later than December 31.
