Lt. Governor Peter Kinder to present Don and Mary Puhr of Sugar Creek with Senior Service Award
Award recognizes volunteer work by Missouri Seniors
JEFFERSON CITY – Missouri Lt. Governor Peter Kinder on Tuesday (June 12) will present Don and Mary Puhr of Sugar Creek with the Lieutenant Governor's Senior Service Award.
Lt. Governor Kinder will make the presentation at 4 p.m. at Mike Onka Community Hall, 11520 Putnam St. in Sugar Creek.
The Puhrs were among 34 Senior Service Award winners. They were nominated by Connie Halastik, director of the Sugar Creek Park and Recreation Department. In her nomination, Halastik said Don and Mary Puhr are both very active in the Sugar Creek Community.
Don spent many hours helping to remodel St. Cyril's Church Rectory, where he also helps with funeral lunch. He also volunteers for the Citizens Civic Relief Commission and the local food pantry, picking up donations and ensuring their delivery. He also makes fishing lures for his grandson's scout troop auction and helps at the annual Family Fall Fest and Slavic festival.
Mary Puhr belongs to the St. Cyril's Altar Society and volunteers on the church finance committee and as a sacristan. She also volunteers for the Citizens Civic Relief Commission and makes quilts and baby items for the Quilt Guild of the Truman Medical Center.
