Lt. Gov. Kinder urges restoration of funds for Doe Run port project

HERCULANEUM — Missouri Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder on Monday will join key state, county and local officials in Jefferson County to urge the restoration of $1.2 million earmarked in the state budget for a new Mississippi River port near the Doe Run property in Jefferson County.

The House approved $1 million for the Jefferson County port as part of its budget bill, but the funding was removed in the Senate. The funds are intended to help redevelop a Doe Run lead smelter site in Herculaneum as a port and industrial center.

Joining Lt. Governor Kinder at Monday's event will be Sens. Ryan McKenna, D-Crystal City, and Kevin Engler, R-Farmington, State representatives from the Jefferson County area, and county and city officials.
