Lt. Governor Peter Kinder recognizes Lee's Summit United Methodist Church
Declaration cites campaign to raise funds to feed needy families
LEE'S SUMMIT – Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder has recognized Lee's Summit United Methodist Church with an official declaration for its annual "Souper Bowl" drive to raise funds to feed needy families in the area.
The church collected nearly $20,000 through its five-week campaign, allowing it to purchase about 35,000 cans of soup, along with crackers, canned fruit and other items needed by Lee's Summit Social Services. Campbell's Soup Co. also donated 900 cans of soup. The items were distributed to needy families in the area.
"I'm pleased to recognize the good work our state's faith communities continually provide to their neighbors in need," Lt. Governor Kinder said. "We live in a state where residents take care of their own, and the congregation at Lee's Summit United Methodist Church exemplifies the values we as Missourians hold dear."
The church provides other community support throughout the year with its Impact program, which, among other deeds, provides students with lunches during school breaks and in summer months.
Lee's Summit United Methodist Church will receive an official declaration from the Lieutenant Governor's Office honoring the church for its work in the Lee's Summit community.
