Web Safety Tips

"Surfing", "chatting" with friends, and even studying on the Internet is really fun. Unfortunately, there are people out there who spoil the fun by using the Internet to cheat and hurt others, especially young people.  This information isn't here to frighten you, but to help you protect yourself and keep the Internet fun! When you are "on-line", always follow these simple rules:
  • Don't assume the "kid" you e-mail or chat with is a kid.  It might be an adult pretending to be a kid!  If the conversations you have with "friends" make you feel uncomfortable or threatened, tell a teacher or an adult you trust right away!

  • Don't tell a stranger personal information like where you go to school, where you live, or what your name is.  Personal information can be used by a stranger to find out other stuff that you may not want them to know.

  • Have a teacher or an adult look at a web site before you register to become a member or give them any personal information.  Be sure to ask permission before you buy anything on-line.  It just might keep you from losing your money or being disappointed!

  • Never agree or go to meet a stranger in person.  If a stanger does suggest that you should meet, immediately tell a teacher or an adult you trust!
